Writing

My big writing epiphany came while I was, of all things, doing my taxes. I had my tax forms neatly filled out in duplicate, and signed my name at the bottom. I moved my pen to the next empty box, "Occupation". Suddenly, it occurred to me that there were people in the world who entered "Writer" in that box. And that's when it dawned on me that my job could be something more and that writing could be more than a hobby. After that, I started taking it more seriously. I joined a Writer's Group. I read tons of books on writing. I started submitting my work for publication.

But the majority of books in the world are not written by people whose full time occupation is writing. Books are written by secretaries, teachers, post office personnel, store clerks, lawyers, doctors, bus drivers, waiters, and telemarketers. Most books are written by people for whom the written word is a passion rather than a way to pay the rent.

I like to count myself in their numbers.

Fiction

Walking on an Autumn Afternoon
This story was inspired by my own thoughts while (what else?) taking a walk. It's probably my favorite story of the ones I've written so far.
Jenga
How is a relationship like a game of Jenga? And who's to blame when it all falls down?
A Day at the Beach
A girl, her father, a new family and a day at the beach.
Things I Would Do To Make Her Smile
Can you save yourself by saving someone else?
What You Don't Know About Me
A rare attempt at poetry.
Emily
A day in the life of Emily, a pretty ordinary girl.
